IEEE 1394 Connectors | Molex

IEEE 1394, also named "Firewire" by Apple, and "i.Link" by Sony, is a standard I/O interface designed to service the demands of the emerging multimedia bus requirements. 1394 is unique in its ability to carry video and audio with assured quality, based on its high bandwidth capabilities. This simple to use, peer-to-peer connection system can carry a dense multimedia data stream between computers, video cameras, high-fidelity audio products and imaging devices at a maximum speed of 400Mb/s.

The hot plugging capabilities of 1394 make it ideal as a consumer interface. A new node can be plugged in without powering down. When a new node is detected, all existing nodes on the bus sense it and know a change in bus topology has occurred. This makes 1394 very flexible allowing users to daisy chain nodes together on the fly.
