North American Relay Market Ends First Half of 2014 with Sales Unchanged and Bookings 5% Lower Than 2013 | TTI, Inc.

Total reported sales for all relay catgories in North America for the second quarter of 2014 were 7% higher than reported in the previous quarter and down slightly from the same quarter of 2013. Sales units for Q2’14 totaled ran 2% above units sold in Q1 and 1% less than Q2’13.

The total booking dollars reported for all relay types in North America for Q2 2014 came in more than the previous quarter 7%, and up slightly from Q2 2013’s total bookings. The second quarter’s book-to-bill ratio for dollars was 0.998. Booking units in Q2 2014 were 1% above Q1. The second quarter’s book-to-bill ratio for units was 1.032.

In the second quarter of 2014 sales were up in dollars and units for EMRs while SSRs declined. ASP’s were up for both and in total. In total dollars increased 7% and units rose 2% while the ASP was 5% higher. When compared to the second quarter of last EMRs were down in dollars and units while SSRs improved. ASPs were up slightly for EMRs and down significantly for SSRs. In total dollars were down a bit and units 1% lower with a ASP gained a little. Year to date SSR dollars and units were higher and EMRs lower. In total, dollars were down less than 1% and units up just over 1%. Total ASP was up about 2% on the strength of EMR’s.

Booking dollars and units moved higher in Q2 compared to Q1 for EMRs and SSRs. In total booking dollars rose 7% and units moved up 1% with a 6% ABP increase. The comparison to Q2 of 2013 shows dollars and units up for EMRs and SSRs. All in, dollars inched up by less than 1% with units 2% better. The ABP for SSR’s fell over 40% while EMRs were unmoved and the total was lower by 2%. Year to date all metrics except SSR units are down compared to 2013. In total dollars are off 5%, units down 3%, and booking prices 2% lower.

The graph below shows total quarterly indexed sales and bookings in dollars and units for the reported data. Sales dollars and units were relatively flat the first three quarters of 2012, fell in the last quarter, held unchanged in Q1 of last year, rose in Q2, fell in second half of the year, and rose in Q1 and Q2. In the first three quarters of 2012 booking dollars and units rose then fell in Q4, recovered in Q1 of 2013, fell off in Q2 and Q3, then rebounded the next three quarters.

The overall indexed selling prices have moved lower by 8% between Q1 of 2012 and 2013 then recovered in Q2 of last year, held steady until with a small dip in Q1 of this year. Indexed booking prices have decreased about 25% from Q1 of 2012 to Q4 of last year and then increased the first half of this year.

Book-to-bill dollars and units trended up from Q1 of 2012 to Q1 of last year, moved down the next two quarters, recovered some in Q4 and Q1, and held steady. The ratio of average booking to selling prices has general moved lower and but remained at or above 1.0 until Q2 of last year. It remains slightly below 1.0.
