Total reported sales for all relay categories in North America for the second quarter of 2018 were 1% more than reported in the previous quarter and up 13% from the same quarter of 2017. Sales units for Q2 2017 came in 4% more than units sold in Q1 and 23% more than Q2 of 2017.

The total booking dollars reported for all relay categories in North America for Q2 2018 ran below the previous quarter by 2% and up 13% from Q2 2017. The first quarter’s book-to-bill ratio for dollars was 1.025. Booking units in Q2 2018 came in 17% below Q1. The second quarter’s book-to-bill ratio for units was 0.858.

In the second quarter of 2018 compared to the first, sales were up in dollars and units for EMRs and SSRs. ASPs were down for both EMR and SSRs. In total, dollars rose 1% and units were up 4% while the ASP was 3% lower. When compared to the second quarter of last year, EMRs and SSRs were higher in dollars and units. ASPs declined for EMR and SSR. In total, dollars were up 13% and units 23% higher with an ASP 8% lower. This year to date compared to last shows EMRs and SSRs up in units and dollars with a falling ABP. In total, dollars rose 18% and units improved 25% with selling prices 5% lower.

Booking dollars and units moved lower in Q2 compared to Q1 for EMRs. In total, booking dollars and units moved lower by 2% and 17%. The ABP rose 17% for EMRs and 6% for SSRs with an18% total drop on a mix shift to higher priced relays. The comparison to Q2 of 2017 shows dollars and units up for SSRs. All in, dollars rose by 13% with units unchanged. The ABP for EMRs rose 15% while SSRs dropped 17% and the total was up by 13%. This year to date compared to last, shows EMRs and SSRs up in units and dollars with mixed ABP results. In total, dollars rose 20% and units improved 18% with booking prices 2% higher.

The graph below shows total quarterly indexed sales and bookings in dollars and units for the reported data. Sales and booking dollars and units have generally trended higher over the past two years, however, the drop in booking units may be telling.

The overall indexed selling prices moved lower over the last two years, declining almost 20%. During the period the indexed ABP generally moved higher to meet the indexed ASP this past quarter.

Book-to-bill dollars have trended higher the last 2 years. Book-to bill units have been mostly over 1.0 the last two years and dropped sharply last quarter. The ratio of average booking to selling prices has general moved higher over the period and jumped last quarter as units fell.
