Automotive relays and modules are optimized for use in motor vehicles (lower voltage DC loads). Modules package one or more relays with other circuitry. Panel mount, plug-in, and PC board versions of these products are offered. Electric wheelchairs and battery powered material handling equipment are among other applications for these products. These relays typically do not carry marks from agencies such as UL, CSA, VDE, etc.
General purpose relays are typically rated to carry maximum currents from five to 20A in a variety of commercial and industrial applications. With one to eight poles, they were originally designed to be plugged into a socket or mounted to a panel, but some also offer PC terminals as an option. Both open and enclosed models are included, and there are many contact and enclosure options. Some offer indicators and mechanical test buttons as options.
These hermetically sealed low signal relays, rated 5A or less, are designed for applications in demanding conditions (extremes of temperature, shock, vibration, etc.). They offer from one to six poles, and some can switch up to 6GHz. Enclosures range from TO-5 and 0.100 grid relays to full size (crystal can). PC board, plug-in and panel mount types are offered. Models meeting military and aerospace specifications are available.
Reed relays are electrically-operated switching devices that consists of two thinn, magnetic strips (reeds) encapulated in a glass envelope. When a coil around the glass envelope is energized, the resulting magnetic field brings the reeds together and closes the contacts. Typcially, the leads are made of nickel-iron alloys. Most reed relays have higher coil resistances and provide faster switching speeds than standard relays.
Safety relays have contacts that are mechanically linked so that their normally open contacts cannot be closed simultaneously, even in the event of a malfunction such as welded contacts. They are used in elevators, escalators, light curtains, press controls, and other critical applications. These enclosed relays with two, four, or six poles are designed for PC board mounting, but some models have been adapted for DIN rail mounting.
The hermetically sealed or encapsulated solid state relays are designed for application in demanding conditions (extremes of temperature, shock, vibration, etc.). Solid state relays perform their switching function with solid state components. They offer one, two, or four outputs and can switch up to 125A. Some incorporate circuit protection or other logic functions in addition to their switching capability. PC board and panel mount types are included. Models meeting military and aerospace specifications are available.
Time delay relays are designed for application in demanding conditions (extremes of temperature, shock, vibration, etc.). They combine an internal timer, fixed or adjustable, with either an electromechanical or solid state output relay and contacts rated up to 10A. Models meeting military and aerospace specifications are available. PC board and panel mount types are included. Many of these products are custom designed to meet a customer’s specific requirements.
